What’s Actually Included in a Website Health Check

If you’ve never had one done, a Website Health Check probably sounds a bit vague. In simple terms, it’s a full look under the hood of your website to find out what’s working, what isn’t, and what might be quietly holding you back without you even knowing it.

Here’s what actually gets checked.

Speed is one of the first things I look at. A slow site doesn’t just annoy visitors, it can affect how Google ranks you too. Usually the cause is something simple like oversized images or old code that’s never been cleaned up.

Next I check for broken links across the site. These are easy to miss but they chip away at trust, both with your visitors and with search engines.

Security gets a proper look too. Outdated plugins, missing SSL, or settings that have never been reviewed can leave your site and your customers’ information more exposed than you’d want.

Mobile performance matters just as much as desktop, probably more. Most people are browsing on their phone, and Google looks at your mobile site first when deciding how to rank you. I check that everything genuinely works well on a phone, not just that it technically fits the screen.

Then there are the small SEO basics that get overlooked all the time. Page titles, meta descriptions, image alt text. None of it is exciting, but all of it helps people actually find you.

Once everything’s checked, you get a plain written report telling you exactly where things stand and what to prioritise. No jargon, no guessing games.

A Health Check is a smart first step whether you’re maintaining a site that’s already doing well or wondering if it’s time for something bigger. Either way, you’ll know exactly where you stand before spending another dollar.
