5 signs your website is costing you customers
Most business owners don’t find out their website has a problem. They just notice, slowly, that enquiries have dried up, and they can’t quite say why.
Here’s what I actually look for when someone asks me to take a look at their site. If two or more of these sound familiar, it’s worth getting it checked properly.
1. Your prices are out of date
This is the one I see most often. A price list from two years ago, still sitting on the site, quietly telling every visitor that nobody’s paying attention. Even if the rest of the page looks great, an outdated price is the fastest way to lose trust before someone’s even picked up the phone.
2. Your enquiry form doesn’t actually work
I’ve tested forms that silently fail. No error message, no confirmation, nothing. The visitor fills it in, hits submit, and it just disappears into nothing. If you haven’t personally tested your own enquiry form in the last few months, that’s worth doing today.
3. It looks fine on your laptop and awful on a phone
Most of your customers are finding you on their phone, not sitting at a desk. If text is too small, buttons are hard to tap, or images spill off the edge of the screen, you’re losing people before they even read what you do.
4. It loads slowly
People don’t wait. If your site takes more than a few seconds to load on mobile data (not your office wifi), a good portion of visitors will leave before they see anything at all.
5. Nobody’s actually looking after it
This is the quiet one. No website breaks all at once. A form stops sending. A link goes nowhere. Opening hours change and nobody updates the site. None of it looks dramatic from the outside, but it all adds up to a business that looks less reliable than it actually is.
